Have you ever wanted to get free from angry outbursts?

Anger can destroy safety in relationships. Whether anger is expressed in a outward way, or if there is a quiet rage that is communicated with your eyes or the coldness of your touch it can hurt the ones you love.

Anger was a natural reaction for me. In some ways, I was trained to express my anger outwardly. My parents wanted me to be able to express my emotions freely, they did not want me to repress my feelings like they had to in their generation.  So, they invented the “bawl” room. No it was not a “ballroom”, it was a place I could go to “bawl” or cry. Anytime I was frustrated, I could go to the bathroom and scream at the top of my voice.

The problem with this approach was, that later in life, whenever life was difficult, I looked for a place to let it all out, to scream, to shout, to cry, to slam a door. The bad thing is, I also developed a habit of screaming at my small children. Not a great parenting technique. Read more

Have you every struggled with anger ot rage?

Hi, I’m Sue Detweiler with ChristianMomTalk.com.  I didn’t realize that I had trouble controlling my anger until I had a toddler. Most of the time I was calm and gentle with my children, but if something triggered my anger, like spilled juice on a newly mopped floor, or marker on the wall, or anytime they blocked a goal.  If I felt overwhelmed with a circumstance, my anger would flare as quickly as a spark ignites a fire.

Ephesians 4:26-27 says “And ‘don’t sin by letting anger control you.’ Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil” (New Living Translation).

When you don’t control anger, it will control you.  When you let loose and scream, shout, pound your fist, or quietly seethe, you are opening up the doorway of your home and inviting the devil to take up residence in your midst. You can feel the atmosphere of your home change. If you make it a regular habit, it gives the devil a foothold. You start to justify your actions and blame everyone around you.

How do you get over anger and rage you may ask? (Because I know there are some who are listening and I am describing something that secretly happens in your house). A first step is to cry out to God and repent of your sin. Have a change of your mind and heart. Humble yourself before God and ask Him to help you.  The other thing that I did is that I would bring my children around me and ask their forgiveness and we would pray together.  I would openly confess it to my husband and ask for his prayer. In other words, I didn’t hide it. I brought it in the light.  I meditated on Scripture and I believed God that He had filled me with the fruit of His spirit that included love, patience, and self-control.

If you have an anger issue, get honest and get free.

Your Fullness

“Everything of God gets expressed in him, so you can see and hear him clearly. You don’t need a telescope, a microscope, or a horoscope to realize the fullness of Christ, and the emptiness of the universe without him. When you come to him, that fullness comes together for you, too. His power extends over everything” Colossians 2:9-10 The Message.

Do you ever feel an emptiness?

When I was home full time with my first 4 children I went through a season where I struggled with my identity. I was doing what God called me to, but I felt Isolated and empty. When you feel a void in life, it may be that Jesus is drawing you deeper. Everything becomes clear when you see Jesus clearly, when you realize the fullness of Christ and the emptiness of the universe without him. When you come to Him, freely and totally the power of the universe makes sense … and His plan for you takes on clear meaning.

Come to Jesus and He will make sense of your life.

Your Faith

“I am telling you this so no one will deceive you with well-crafted arguments. 5 For though I am far away from you, my heart is with you. And I rejoice that you are living as you should and that your faith in Christ is strong.” Colossians 2:4,5 New Living Translation.

Have you every been deceived?

Well-crafted arguments can overtake your thoughts until you believe a lie. Lie’s and deception will erode your relationship with Christ. The negative thought patterns of lies will lead to negative emotions. These negative emotions will fill your home and spill over to negatively impact your kids.  Today, let your faith in Christ be strong. Take captive every thought that tries to take your faith hostage. You can take the thought captive and walk in obedience in Christ. Stand strong in your faith today.

Your Lord

“My counsel for you is simple and straightforward: Just go ahead with what you’ve been given. You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now live for him. You’re deeply rooted in him. You’re well constructed upon him. You know your way around the faith. Now do what you’ve been taught. School’s out; quit studying the subject and start living it! And let your living spill over into thanksgiving” Colossians 2:6-7 The Message.

Who truly is the Lord of your life?

Your walk with Christ is simple and straightforward when you truly let Him lead you and guide you rather than you preferences.  If you build your life on Him, for Him and around Him, everything makes sense. If you try to add extra things to it like the food you crave, the money you want, your kids behavior, your husbands job… any exterior reality will always fail to lead or guide you into truth. You will never be satisfied by a false lover. Your lord and your life must be Jesus Himself. Start living with Jesus leading you, guiding you, showing you every step of the way how to live. Let him be master of your destiny.

Your Treasure

“I want you woven into a tapestry of love, in touch with everything there is to know of God. Then you will have minds confident and at rest, focused on Christ, God’s great mystery. All the richest treasures of wisdom and knowledge are embedded in that mystery and nowhere else. And we’ve been shown the mystery! I’m telling you this because I don’t want anyone leading you off on some wild-goose chase, after other so-called mysteries, or “the Secret.”  Colossians 2:2-4 The Message

What is your treasure?

Is your treasure found in the things that you taste, see or do? Do you treasure the material things of life or the prestige of position?  God has woven our lives like a tapestry of love, leading us into more intimate knowledge of walking with God and truly knowing Him.  The riches of our lives are the wisdom and the knowledges found in Jesus alone.

Passionately pursue the hidden treasure of Jesus Christ. Then your mind will be confident and at rest

Your Encouragment with Sue Detweiler

“My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ” Colossians 2:2

What is your goal in life?

Is your goal to have a lot of stuff or to perform well at everything you do?  What type of riches are you looking for? If your goal is based on the material world, you will spend a lot of time discouraged. If you want to be the soccer mom of the year or Martha Stewart you will always fall short. Your heart will be frustrated and your perspective clouded by the distractions of life.  Your encouragement is found when you are united in love with Christ. Then you will have full understanding of the riches that are available only in the mystery of Christ.

Today, Let Christ be your encouragement.

Your Energy

“We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.  To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me.”

Do you sometimes run out of energy by the end of the day?

Do you rely on your own human ability throughout your day, or do you allow divine energy to flow through you as you labor by His leading.  Too often, if I am honest, I run out of steam because I am being self-sufficient rather that desperately dependent. Face it. you can’t be perfect by yourself. But in Christ He will perfect you and so that even when things aren’t going according to plan, you are able to move forward in his strength.

Be infused with His divine energy.

Your Commission

“Now I rejoice in what was suffered for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, which is the church. I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness-” Colossians 1:24-25 NIV.

What is your commission?

If you are like many, you don’t think about your commission, you just think about your task.  But let’s be real.  What meaning is there in the task of changing a diaper if it is not connected to the commission of being a mom or a caretaker of a child.  I encourage you to become a servant to God, receiving your commission to be a mom. Don’t do it in a half-hearted way, receive the grace that God has given you to present the word of God in its fullness as you live life in your home.

Receive your commission. He has a mission for you as a mom.

Your Freedom

“Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior.  But now He has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation” Colossians 1:21-22 NIV.

Do you find yourself going through your day hearing accusations in your mind?

Accusations are from the enemy to alienate you from God and others. These accusations can sound like your own thoughts where you tell yourself, “I’m a terrible mom”, “I hate being home with my kids”, “I can’t do anything right.” The battle in your mind wages when you don’t know and apply the truth that Jesus died to set you free.  He made you holy. You are free from all accusation.

Receive your Freedom in Christ.
